Previous Meetings - 2007

The February meeting included a discussion on the upcoming EV Expo at Glendale Community College.

The January meeting, as told by Sam DiMarco: Thanks for a great turnout at our new meeting location at APS Star Center. James Quaid gave a great tour and explanation of the Star Center's purpose. Now that my proposal was accepted I'll start the ball rolling for our March Expo. I'll keep everyone informed of my progress. Below is copy of my proposal for those who could'nt make the meeting.
Proposal for An Electric Auto Association Expo.
Proposal: Have an EAA EXPO in conjunction with the yearly Parts Exchange by the Vintage Chevy Club at Glendale Community College March 16th & 17th. Admission is FREE. If this is successful, this may become an annual event.
Plan of Action: Secure 10 swap spaces(4000sq ft) for the purpose of displaying:
1. Transportation EV’s: Cars, trucks, bikes
2. Race EV’s: Cars, dragsters bikes.
3. Local production EV’s. Invite local dealers to display.
4. Hybrids/ Plug-in Hybrids.
5. Electric Race Boats
6. EV Projects
7. Bio Diesel Display.
8. Hydrogen Association Display.
9. Handouts, EV information.
8. Swap: Bring any auto/ev parts components to sell. We will also have a parts donation table, with proceeds going to our treasury.
Action Items:
1. Secure spaces.
2. Contact and get commitment from exhibitors.
3. Design flyers: print qty?
4. Distribute flyers at car shows, college b-boards, auto parts stores.

Previous Meetings - 2006

December marked the group's very last meeting at the Arizona Historical Museum. Given the time of year, the meeting also featured a discussion on the annual Phoenix EAA entry in downtown Phoenix's light parade.

November found the Phoenix EAA at a new meeting location, the Arizona Historical Museum... but the meeting site wouldn't last long!

The October meeting was the group's last meeting at the SRP Administrative building.

The September meeting included a discussion of the recent publicity events: the Who Killed the Electric Car? debut at the Camelview 5 Theatre and the Mens Luxury Toy Expo at the new Cardinals Stadium. There was also discussion of the three EVs released this year, as well as a look at Solectria and what the company is doing today.

The August meeting included a discussion of some new EVs coming out and the upcoming documentary Who Killed the Electric Car?

The July meeting included a showing of the PBS show NOW, which featured Chris Paine, director of Who Killed the Electric Car?, in addition to a discussion on battery cable connections.

Agenda items from the June meeting included a discussion on the Clean Car Congress event recently held in Phoenix and the plug-in hybrid trek to D.C., as well as technical talks on battery connections and tire/rim choices

Details on the May meeting have not been provided.

The April meeting featured a continuation of the "how to build your own EV" discussion, including discussion on critical components like chargers and controllers. Local member Bill Kreitzer also showed a solar, Stirling engine electric generator.

The March meeting included a general discussion on "building your own EV." The meeting also included some discussion on the latest OEM hybrids and one of the biggest names in electric vehicle racing history, the Valley's own Dennis Berube.

The February meeting featured two guest speakers who spoke on the topic of ethanol vehicles, as well as an update on some research being conducted on the Toshiba quick-charge lithium batteries.

The January meeting featured a discussion on batteries, as well as the new pure electric vehicles coming out from Subaru, Fuji ,Tango, AC Propulsions and China.

Previous Meetings - 2005

This year marked the first December meeting for the Phoenix EAA! The newly adopted meeting format (every meeting on the first Saturday of the month) now allows the group to hold December meetings without conflicting with holiday plans. This month's meeting involved a discussion of the Electric Light Parade, which was held later the same day. The meeting also included a discussion on the progress of EVs in the last year, as well as the outlook in 2006.

The November meeting included the showing of an Ecotrekker video, as well as preparations for the upcoming Electric Light Parade

The October meeting included the showing of a Channel 5 News story on local EV company EVbones.

The September meeting involved a discussion of the record-breaking gas prices and their affect on EVs.

The August meeting included a discussion on the various companies worldwide selling 100% pure electrics. This meeting also marked the beginning of a new format, with meetings now held on the first Saturday of the month, rather than the fourth.

The July meeting included a discussion of the recent solar challenge that rolled through the Valley, as well as a discussion of the new hybrids coming out.

The June meeting discussion topic was hydrogen vehicles.

There is nothing to note from the May meeting.

The April meeting was a preview and discussion of several, several EVents coming up.

The March meeting was held in conjunction with an EV and hybrid vehicle display at the weekly Scottsdale Pavilions car show! Pictures from the event are viewable in the Photo Album section.

Previous Meetings - 2004

The November meeting featured a discussion of previous Phoenix EAA entries in the Electric Light Parade, as well as some last-minute preparations for this year's event. There was also a discussion of the results from the Michelin Challenge Bibendum, held in China this October.

The October meeting featured some planning for the upcoming Electric Light Parade, in which the Phoenix EAA will be participating once again. There was also a discussion of the Sparrow EV's return to production and the Ariana 729 EV (and plans for a hybrid as well).

There is nothing to note from the September meeting.

The August meeting included a discussion on the SCION EV that AC Propulsion is set to convert and its possible affect on the EV industry. There was also a discussion regarding the GM EVs that are now being crushed. Following the meeting, members visited a local facility that has been reviving and selling these EVs.

The July meeting included a discussion of the Green Machines articles featured in a recent Auto Show edition of LA Weekly and an update on current projects that local EAA members have going. Members also heard about Sam and Mario's experiences assisting with the Eco Trekker, an 8-month, 30-state alternative fuel adventure.

There is nothing to note from the June meeting.

The May meeting featured a presentation by special guest and local EVer Robert Q. Riley, who is known as the creator of EV designs like the Trimuter and Urba. The meeting also featured a presentation on the AC Propulsion T-Zero EV and pictures from the SRP Solar Spectacular EVent that the Phoenix EAA helped sponsor.

Previous Meetings - 2003

As always, there was no December meeting. We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year! In leiu of the monthly meeting, however, members gathered at the Scottsdale Pavilons Saturday night car show for an informal EV display.

The November meeting was used as a review of current EV legislation, rebates, technology and EVents.

The October meeting featured a discussion on the various books, magazines, clubs and internet sites dedicated to EVs, EV news, and EVs for sale.

The September meeting included a discussion of how people can invest in the EV market.

The August meeting featured a discussion of the various vehicles owned and operated by local EAA members.

The July meeting featured a discussion of the hybrid vehicles currently available and how they may help or hurt the EV cause.

The June meeting included a discussion on alternative types of electric vehicles: bikes, boats, planes, scooters and more.

The May meeting included a discussion of renewable energy sources.

The April meeting included a discussion of the different hydrogen, fuel cell and hybrid vehicles that are available or soon to be available.

The March meeting was held a bit later in the month than our traditional 4th Saturday routine, but was well worth it. The meeting was held at the Scottsdale Pavilions weekly car/bike show and featured an impressive line of EVs and hybrids. The Phoenix EAA was proud to a few California EAA visitors for the weekend as well.

The February meeting included a discussion about building your own EV: total cost, what vehicle to convert, conversion literature, parts and suppliers, batteries, motors, controllers, gauges, and the time required for the conversion.

The January meeting was the "go or no go" point for both the Tour de AZ and the National EAA Chapters Conference. Phoenix was hoping to host both EVents this March, but circumstances prevented that from happening. The members of the Phoenix EAA look forward to hosting both events sometime in the near future. The meeting also featured a discussion on the different battery chemistries available and soon to be available, including lead acid, nickel zinc, lithium ion, zinc air and others.

Previous Meetings - 2002

As always, there was no December meeting. We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year!

Among other things, the November meeting included a discussion of two major EVents, the Tour de AZ and the National EAA Conference, both to be held here in Phoenix early next year!

The October meeting included a discussion of EV media, including all sources of EV information: books, magazines, clubs, internet sites, classifieds listings, and much more.

The September meeting included a discussion of the various ways to invest in the EV and hybrid EV industries, including stock options with companies like Ford, Ballard Power Systems and Evercel. Visit the links shown for current stock profiles.

The August meeting focused on the various EVs and hybrids owned by Phoenix EAA members, including the world's quickest electric vehicle, a Mustang convertible, Escort wagon, and several S-10s from various manufacturers, among other vehicles.

The July meeting included a discussion on the hybrid vehicle, including the various hybrids available now and in the near future and how they may help advance the pure-electric EV cause.

Topics from the June meeting included: the cost of driving electric; batteries; fuel cells; and the source of electric power generation.

The April and May meetings featured discussion about fuel cells, batteries, and several current EVents.

There were a good number of people in attendance for the March meeting, which featured a discussion on the available types of batteries for on-road electric vehicles.

There is nothing to report from the February meeting.

Under the direction of newly-elected President Jim Stack, January marked the beginning of monthly technical topics. January's topic was a feature on the different types of electric vehicles currently available or soon-to-be available.

Previous Meetings - 2001

As always, there was no December meeting. We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year!

Topics of discussion at the November meeting included the new hybrid, solar, and fuel-cell powered vehicles; information on a few upcoming EVents; and also information on the upcoming December displays at the Scottsdale Pavilions car show and the Phoenix electric light parade.

Our October meeting featured annual officer elections. Among other positions, the new Phoenix EAA President is Jim Stack. Congratulations Jim!

There was nothing spectacular to report from the August or September meetings.

The July meeting was attended by our vacationing President Roy Thompson and also by our gracious host, Rusty Childers. Meeting activities included two videos and a host of questions from the several new faces at this meeting.

The June meeting featured several new faces to the EV picture. In addition to various updates on current news items and person conversion projects, the meeting featured a general question-and-answer session for the visitors in attendance.

The May meeting was also held at Childress Automall of Phoenix. Given that the meeting was in the middle of a three-day holiday weekend, the meeting was not all too eventful.

The April meeting was held at a new location - Childress Automall of Phoenix. Festivities after the meeting included free test drives in a Corbin Sparrow and various electric scooters! It is probable that Childress will host several of the upcoming meetings for the EAA.

The March 24th meeting was a return visit to the ASU Electric Vehicle Research Group. Several EAA administrative and future events decisions were discussed.

The meeting on February 24th was another visit to the Scottsdale Pavilions Saturday night car show. Following the general meeting, several members displayed their electric and hybrid vehicles while answering questions from the public.

January's EAA meeting was hosted by the Arizona State University Electric Vehicle Research Group (EVRG) on January 27th. In addition to the general meeting announcements and topics, the EAA members were given an introduction to the EVRG's purpose and current projects. Previous Meetings - 2000

Due to the holidays, the EAA generally does not hold a December meeting. This December, however, the members gathered at the Scottsdale Pavilons Saturday night car show for an informal EV display. The weekly car show is quite popular - and this month was graced with the presence of 11 EVs, ranging from an electric dragster to electric pickup trucks and golf carts.
