Monthly Meeting - Saturday 7/31/10 - 10am - ASU Center (Room UCENT 271)
At the July meeting, Ricky Suiter will talk about pending rules for charging locations. And for the first time, the Phoenix chapters of both the Electric Auto Association and the Alternative Energy Meetup Group will have a joint meeting so that we can hear from the candidates for Arizona Corporation Commission. We hope to hear from all 7 candidates (Republicans, Democrats and Libertarian) for these important positions. Each of the major parties will narrow their field to two (2) candidates on Aug. 24th (Primary Election) and the winners will contend for the two (2) open seats of the five (5) member Corporation Commission in the November General Election. The Commission regulates certain utility functions for the State including electricity, telephone, natural gas, and water/sewer service, as well as facilitating the incorporation of businesses and organizations, securities regulation, and railroad/pipeline safety. The decisions they make will affect the citizens of Arizona for decades to come in the rates we pay and in the quality of service. Some of our members are very politically active and feel it is our duty to educate ourselves on the issues before we vote for a candidate, especially when our energy future is at stake !! The EAA will hold their regular meeting with all sorts of great information on electric vehicles beginning at 10:00 am. About 11:00 am, we will invite the candidates to speak about their candidacy and how they see EV and other alternatively fueled vehicles fitting into the Arizona energy future. Following the meeting, various vehicles are available for examination including all-electrics and plug-in hybrids. The discussion will continue over lunch at local eateries.
