4-Wheel Street Legal EV
upgraded Urba EV
$1900

Custom one-off Electric Vehicle based on a 1972 Honda AS300? Frame. This vehicle was featured in a Popular Mechanics magazine from February 1977! Originally built around an aircraft generator and component level built controller. The body is foam-fiberglass. The car seats 2 and entry is via a clam shell top that opens up (no doors)! You can search Google for key words "Urba Electric". There are articles about it. To the original builders knowledge, only two were ever completed!

It is registered in Arizona with an Arizona issued VIN. It has all the facilities needed to be street legal (brakes, lights, mirrors, safety glass windshield, wipers, etc). Last configuration was 84V, 250Ah. Top speed 50MPH.

I had since retro-fitted the vehicle with modern facilities listed below:

  • Charger, Zivan NG1, 120 VAC in, 12/96 VD
  • Controller, AXE by Alltrax, 24-72 VDC, 450 amp, Fully Programmable
  • 12 US-2200 6V Batteries (250Ah)
  • Motor ADC 48-96VDC, single shaft, 6.7" diam., 48-96VDC 8 HP
  • Albright Motor Contactor, DC 250+ Amp
  • Albright Motor F/R Contractor, DC 250+ Amp
  • DC2431 DC-DC Converter, 25 amp, 72-80 VDC Input
  • MM2110 Motor Mount, \'Ell\' style, ADC 5.5\"

    POTENTIAL BUYERS BEWARE:

This vehicle currently is not in running state. It has not been driven since 2006. I had two electrics at the time and lost interest in maintaining it. Priority and main problem is the axle bearings need to be replaced. I had replaced one set before and then the other side went out. The repair would require only a few dollars worth of parts but a lot of sweat! The original gearbox has been bypassed and motor remounted to utilize a direct drive chain methodology. The battery pack is also dead. Replacing them will require an additional investment of approximately $1000. This vehicle is an excellent hobbiest opportunity and REQUIRES SOMEONE WITH BOTH MODEST ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL SKILLS or access to such resources. The body interior is spacious and easy to work in (no cramped spaces). Alternatively, reviewing the component list above, my minimum bid is meant to recoup the cost of the newest investment only. Although I hope the car isn't salvaged for the parts, it is a potential.

My hobby interests have gone in other directions. I no longer have the facilities to entertain electrics anymore :<.

I truely want to find the right home for it. Any one who wishes particular information, additional photos of specific aspects about the vehicle, or even access to the original design prints can contact me. I expect the buyer to buy with eyes open! This is a potential electric enthusiast dream (one of the oldest electrics around).

Buyer is responsible to arrange and pay for transport of the vehicle to destination (though it has a tow point, because of the axle, I would recommend flat bed pickup). Buyer accepts this sale is AS IS. Buyer accepts responsibility for use of the vehicle and any related liability to such use. Although I would accept payment directly, escrow arrangments can be made. Title and keys will be provided once payment in full is made.
